Guns, Germs, and Steel
I developed a general Liberal Arts CLIL (content and language integrated learning) course for sophomore students at Miyazaki International College who are not able to go abroad in the 3rd semester of studies. Since I was familiar with the book and had taught with it before (in a very different way) at Seijo University some years earlier, I adopted Jared Diamonds work, "Guns, Germs, and Steel" for the course. The book is beyond reach to MIC students in English, so the students read the book in their native tongue (mostly Japanese, but also Chinese, Korean, and Russian). I created English summaries for each chapter that students work with, and the videos below were made for review purposes. I had to heavily modify the scripts (originally purchased online) from the originals to suit their English level. Also below is a Japanese-language course explanation (Active Learning MIC promotional materials).
